My first successful reroot, I've experimented and ripped out on the Malibu Skipper.
As always it's done on the "cheap". You need hair, I use those bagged curls from the craft store. I'd reccomend two small bags or a big one because it's better to have too much hair. Have matching thread, and a doll needle which is basically a really long but no bitter around than a regular sewing needle. I suppose you could try a beeding needle but some holes can be really tight and you might need to poke a few more.
First prep the Monster by whacking off the hair as close to the head as possible, if it's a decent length put it in a baggie for future use. Optional is to wipe off the face with acetone nail polish remover. But don't smear the face because the paint will lovingly spread and possibly stain. Use acetone around dolls at your own risk.
Prep the hair you want to reroot with by cutting it in to lengths twice as long as you want the finished lenth because you'll be folding the hair in half.
The thred is long and folded in half but NOT put through the eye of the needle. The two loose ends are tied in a knot 2 or 3 times so the knot won't pull ut through a head hole. Or you can tie the ends to a small seed bead. The loop end is what will be folded tight and go through the eye of the needle, so you may want a threader.
Insert the needle eye first in to a hole, poke one with the point of the needle if you need to.
Push until the eye sticks out the neck hole but the tip of the needle is still sticking out of the head. Thread the needle with
Pull the needle all the way through the head until the thread is snug.
Put the eye back in to the same hole and push all the way through the head BUT make a loop of thread. You might want to stick your finger in the loop to keep it in place. The needle and end of the thread will come out the neck hole, go ahead and slide the needle off so you don't poke yourself.
You can kind of see a loop of thread sticking up.
You'll feed one end of your string of hairs through the loop, match up the ends so the middle of the hair is caught by the loop, you may want to pull on the thread haging out the neck at the same time.
With one hand hold gently to the ends of the hair to keep them even and with the other gently pull the tail of the thread that sticks out of the neck. Where the hait is folded in half should go in to the scalp, you may even hear a slight pop as it comes out the other side. Gently pull on the hair if you want to make sure it's against the inner edge of the scalp.
Now I havent' run out of thread yet but I'm thinking there could be a way to make a knot somewhere, thus the thread matching the hair.
Here's what he looks like so far.
